Say one thing, do another

March 24, 2026

Guess what Reader? It’s Tuesday! Remember when I used to write to you all on Tuesdays? Good times, good times.

Also remember when I told you all that I was going to switch to Patreon by February? And remember when the date changed from February 28th to March 1st and still no Patreon came? Yeeeahhhh, good times!!!!

Here we are on March 24th, and I’ve got actually good times news for you - the Substack is up and running!

Join it here: https://embodysim.substack.com/

Yup, you read that right, I said Substack not Patreon. “Okkkayyyy,” you may think, “why did that happen?”

Come with me into concept land for a moment.

Here’s the thing. Sometimes, I know that I need to make a change, I can feel it (thanks intuition) but I don’t have exact clarity on precisely what that change is. So I assess the information at hand. I look at my options, which all appear blurry as they are off in the distance, far from where I am currently standing, squint a little bit, and pick the one that looks like the closest proximity of what I want.

Then, I walk towards it, step by step (often fighting the anxious urge to sprint ahead, turn back the way I came, bury my head in the sand where I stand, or - most commonly - run off into a different direction all together because what could possibly go wrong!), simple as that!

Staying the course that Old Me layed out in order to become a certain sort of Future Me is challenging (see content of the previous parentheses). Sometimes, Old Me was super smart, had all the right info to make a great choice, clear intentions and plenty of wisdom and support from within and without. That’s the dreamiest and rarest scenario of all time.

Often, Old Me has a decent sense of what Future Me might like, a steady intention (thanks to years of cultivating this in myself through the work that SiM is made of), and a good enough amount of information to point me in a direction Future Me does enjoy, but only after recalibrating. Best laid plans, and all that.

If I’m willing to pivot here and there along the way, present me can manage that the new information that came my way, the clarity that some things the plan was based on were not what they looked like from way back there, and the direction I was walking in is accessible only if I go 2-5 other directions first to get around some obstacles along the way.

Here’s the thing, I LOVE pivoting. It is my favorite of all the options in the anxiety parentheses. BUT! It often fucks me over the same way my love of chocolate chip cookie dough does - wayyyy tooo much of a good thing is a bad thing. I got lost in my pivots, burn energy running around through side quests, gathering up way too many fun/cool/interesting things along the way to actually hold onto, and then realize that my energy is too low and my proverbial bags are too heavy to actually make it to the finish line without some major re-vamping of the plan. So the key for me to not get destroyed by excessive Pivot-Love is practicing patience, discipline and discernment.

That brings me to the land of actions and behaviors - aka lived life.

Substack it is, folks.

I apologize for not following through with the shift at the end of February I said I’d do. Also, I appreciate you for flowing through this windy life with me. I couldn’t shake that itchy feeling that patreon and the things I was going to do with it were not quite what SiM needed, or what I wanted right now. But I still deeply felt the intuitive pull toward something, and I knew the discipline of staying the course of a platform shift was still the right thing. I needed a while to get enough information to discern what course of action would get this community project of SiM’s to where it needed to go, and it turns out that required about three more weeks than I thought. Thank YOU for your patience.

I’m really stoked to be shifting to Substack and the things it will allow me to do with all of you. It’s got its pros and its cons, but ultimately, it is much more communal (a must) and it celebrates the art of long form (something I’ll share about there soon). These writings will be there, and so will access to more SiM community things like the weekly SiM Movement classes I’ve been teaching.

I hope you spend some time there with me reading and chatting in the comments, and checking out the other incredible writers like Maeve Ginsberg at the etcetera and QINGKACHI at Remember Yourself Home - there are so many wise words to find stacked on these digital shelves.

Back to concept land for the finish: you know how I love the Stability in Motion concept. I lean toward motion as a default for most things, and benefit from engaging in stabilizing practices. There’s plenty of folks who lean the other way, and I’m sure you know what they could benefit from practicing.

I’ve got clients and buddies who LOVE routine. They thrive on eating the same breakfast every day, same time, same place. These folks get all messed up by a different beast altogether - Rigidity. They don’t pivot enough, and when life does what it does and the winds shift and the tide changes and that sickness/bill/crash/party/new friend comes out of nowhere, they hold so tightly to the plan that they get knocked over by life. Either their plan simply no longer works at all with the new input they are too resistant to adapting to, or they adapt too slowly to keep up with what life is throwing their way, or - worst of all - they follow through with the shape of their plan and get to the destination, only to realize that to do so, they had to leave behind all of the meaning, the heart, the intention that made the plan worth doing in the first place. The key for them is practicing buoyancy, spontaneity, and prioritizing the why not the how.

Change happens to and through all of us, to and through everything, all the time. How we perceive it, how it impacts us, what we do during the most apparent parts of the transformations - that’s less of a constant than the fact of change itself.

The best approach in my opinion? The one that works for you. Frustrating answer, am I right? But really, it’s like getting shoes. You can read all the reviews you want and talk to all the experts and see what all your friends are doing, make the most informed decision possible and still end up with a shitty pair of shoes for your feet.

Information without intuition is hollow. Uninformed intuition is evasive.

Intuition tells us something needs to shift, either towards a direction or away from a direction, and information tells us how we go about making that shift. More on all this another day soon, you’ll find it on Substack.

For now, think about what kind of pattern you lean into when in a change process, and what you might want to practice to help you stay balanced on your journey.

From here on out, the regular email from me you’ve been getting will be on Substack, so please subscribe and share - you know the drill. By April, I’ll stop putting the long form on here (you’ll get one or two more lengthy buddies from this place) and this weekly email will become more of a SiM update around business stuff - classes, offerings, etc - I’ll see how it evolves over time.

TTFN,

Kate

PS - It was pointed out to me a surprisingly large number of you that it was a bit of a tease to say I changed my hair and then not share, so here you go:

October 14, 2026 Can you take it easy, Reader? My answer has been no. Really it's been more of "ha, that's funny" or a "why would you even ask me such a thing?" or a simple, "fuck. no." Seriously, it has felt super tough to chill out, physically impossible. I've got sooooo much going externally and internally that the "free time" on that most days on my calendar is large enough to cook or eat or go grocery shopping but certainly not all three. Needless to say I'm alternating between hungry,...

October 8 2026 How are you, Reader? No really, how are you? I want you to tell me, and that's why I asked. If I didn't want to know, and I asked any way, I could claim that I am just being polite, doing what people do to say hi, but I don't really believe it's all that polite. “I hate how are you” said a client two days back. They were not the first ones to express this sentiment, and I tend to agree. The conversation we had after was a perfect example of the unexpectedly juicy thing that...
