Okay, Reader - Back to the anxiety:

Let's start in the beginning. I felt it right away as a strong pull to stay in bed, pick up my phone and read. Then realizing that would drain the day away fast, the impulse shifted to “just check a few emails/look at your calendar (yes, sometimes I do this to try to NOT feel anxious, I get that it’s weird).

Next I got up, walked the dog. Sensing I was still buzzing with inner ick, I popped on an audiobook that I thought would maybe “help” (aka keep me from feeling my feels like they are clothes made of led) and it diiiid - but also. The thing happened where I didn’t want to turn it off. I caught this about 10 minutes too late, and then did the following things that I think actually helped:

  1. Groaned in angst longly (yes it's a word now) and loudly while pacing back and forth.
  2. Reached out to a group of colleagues I’m a part of (hey Crew 52!!!) and told them how I was feeling (plus sent a recording of a less long angst sound) - the message looked like this:
  3. Got on IG and shared a video of me doing my grabbing peaches move after confessing that it took me an hour to do something like it, despite the fact that I’d have instructed every client I have to try it straight away.
  4. Made a list of things I actually had to do before starting the client facing part of the day.
  5. Showered, started writing, ate food (these were on the list).

I am not under the impression that this anxious feeling will depart because I ask it to. A la Addicted to Anxiety and other such books and philosophies, I’m more in the camp that the smoothest move is to say, “heyyyyy there anxiety - what are you doing in this neck of the woods?” I live in a high desert, woods are nowhere to be found. I try to ask it with openness and gentle curiosity (sing song therapy voice here), but let’s be real, sarcastic exasperation is a general undercurrent. Still you get the gist.

Anxiety - or as I prefer to think of them as - Angsty feels - are a common thing for me to experience. Sometimes they are truly situational. In these cases, if the Angst could talk, it would say - “I’m the representative for the large crew of uncomfortable feelings that come with this issue that you factually need to tend to” or “you actually feel sad/angry but since you’re in denial of that at the moment, I’m here to trick you into feeling your feels”. In these instances, generally speaking, anxiety peaces out once I am willing to be with the feels that are actually more pressing (which can take, minutes, hours, days or at worst weeks of finally getting around to doing.)

Other times though - I just feel it. Probably because I’m a human and we have a strong propensity for being anxious whether or not we like to, plus too much information to actually use effectively in our lives and not enough moving and the internet and yadda yadda.

When this is the case - I have never ever ever had success in getting anxiety out of my face. Instead, I have had loads of success inviting ....

October 14, 2026 Can you take it easy, Reader? My answer has been no. Really it's been more of "ha, that's funny" or a "why would you even ask me such a thing?" or a simple, "fuck. no." Seriously, it has felt super tough to chill out, physically impossible. I've got sooooo much going externally and internally that the "free time" on that most days on my calendar is large enough to cook or eat or go grocery shopping but certainly not all three. Needless to say I'm alternating between hungry,...

October 8 2026 How are you, Reader? No really, how are you? I want you to tell me, and that's why I asked. If I didn't want to know, and I asked any way, I could claim that I am just being polite, doing what people do to say hi, but I don't really believe it's all that polite. “I hate how are you” said a client two days back. They were not the first ones to express this sentiment, and I tend to agree. The conversation we had after was a perfect example of the unexpectedly juicy thing that...
